Wild Angelica (Kuannit): A taste of the Nordic coast
Wild Angelica, or Angelica archangelica, is a tall, aromatic plant that grows along coasts and riverbanks in Greenland and the rest of the Nordic region. In Greenland, it is known as kuannit.
For centuries, people in the north have used angelica as food and flavouring. The stems have been eaten fresh or candied, and the plant is still used today to flavour liqueurs and gin.
In the kitchen
Kuannit has a sweet, green and slightly peppery aroma. Tarajoq Wild Angelica blends it with Greenlandic sea salt. It works well on fish, in butter sauce and over boiled potatoes.
Tarajoq Wild Angelica is a seasoning, not a medicine. Angelica can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight and may not suit everyone. Talk to your doctor before using it if you are pregnant, take medication or have a health condition.
