Labrador Tea (Qajaasat): A traditional Arctic leaf

Labrador Tea, or Rhododendron groenlandicum, is a low evergreen shrub that grows in damp, open ground across the Arctic and subarctic. In Greenland, it is known as qajaasat.

The leathery leaves have long been used to make a warm herbal tea in northern communities. They have a deep, resinous aroma with notes of pine and spice.

In the kitchen
Tarajoq Labrador Tea blends the leaves with Greenlandic sea salt. A small pinch gives character to sauces, stews and slow-cooked meat.

A note on moderation
Like many wild plants, Labrador Tea is best used in small amounts. We keep the dose in our blend low, and we recommend using it as a seasoning, not as a daily tea.

Tarajoq Labrador Tea is a seasoning, not a medicine. It may not suit everyone, including pregnant women and people taking medication. Talk to your doctor if you are unsure.
